WiMAX and the New Era of Telecommunications
- Course Name: WiMAX and the New Era of Telecommunications
- Duration: 2 days
- Technical Level: 2
Overview
This 2-day training course explores the market conditions for multi-play services and examines example triple-play and quad-play services offerings and the technologies which support these services. The programme focuses specifically on the role that WiMAX can play in enabling delivery of the services to the end-user.
The course introduces the concept of both WiMAX and multi-play services and uses case studies to analyse the business models being employed in this emerging market segment. The technology choices for the delivery of multi-play are also examined to explain the features and capabilities that can be supported and to explain how the various services components are related.
The different WiMAX scenarios and applications are explored, together with a comprehensive assessment of the scope, capabilities, and limitations of the evolving WiMAX system in support of the new service paradigm.
Course Objectives
At the end of the course, the delegate will be able to:
- Define Multi-Play and the Triple-Play/Quad-Play options
- Analyse and compare the broadband and multi-service offerings of example operators and describe the business models which are being applied
- Identify the market trends in relation to both broadband and multi-play services
- Contrast wireless and wireline access technologies and identify the access requirements for broadband and multi-play services
- Identify the role of WiMAX technology in access networks and state the capabilities of WiMAX systems
- List the various WiMAX applications / scenarios and describe their likely usage
- List the main technologies which are being used to deliver digital television and contrast the features of these systems
- List the security threats related to IP networks and describe the techniques that may be used to mitigate these
- Identify the major challenges in deploying WiMAX networks in support of new era services
- Thoroughly review the scope and coverage of the WiMAX ecosystem, identifying the relative importance and application of the different parts of the architecture to modern broadband and multi-play services
