Optical Networking

  • Course Name: Optical Networking
  • Duration: 1 day
  • Technical Level: 4

Overview

With the increase in bandwidth that will be demanded by new networks, Optical Networks is designed to give delegates a solid grounding in the supporting technologies.

Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) and Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM) are central to supporting these networks and in this course are introduced to participants irrespective of any previous experience or knowledge.

Presented as a high-level guided tour, this course examines the demand for and features of these two important technologies and explores their position in mobile networks. Standards, interfaces, network compositions and players in the marketplace are discussed, with exercises to check and develop knowledge.

Course Objectives

  • Describe the concepts of SDH and DWDM.
  • Be conversant with acronyms used in Optical Networking
  • Describe an Optical Network
  • Identify elements within an Optical Network
  • Demonstrate awareness of manufacturers of Optical Network technology

Course Requirements

A basic understanding of telecommunications principles would be an advantage, but not essential.
