Efficient Implementation of Mobile TV Networks with DVB-SH


Led by Alcatel-Lucent and TeamCast

On the occasion of the DVBWorld Conference in March 2008, the European Commissioner Viviane Reding underlined the role of DVB-SH as an evolution of DVB-H, stressing the advantages of DVB-SH as an open, flexible and affordable standard, and a member of the DVB family.

Following the introduction of DVB-SH during the Deploying and Managing DVB-H conference from a strategy, solution, service, and business perspectives, the post-conference DVB-SHWorkshop on 20th June 2008 will provide registered delegates with a thorough technical presentation on the efficiency of this standard.

This half-day workshop will include a practical DVB-SH demonstration out of the Eureka/CELTIC"B21C"project, the presentation on network topology, examples of network planning and comparison of link budgets with other mobile broadcast technologies.

Workshop Speakers

Herbert Mittermayr is Vice President Marketing of Alcatel-Lucent Mobile Broadcast, the Alcatel-Lucent internal venture dedicated to mobile TV solutions. Herbert has more than 10 years of experience in the telecom industry. He joined Alcatel in 1994 as Head of Business Center Export in Alcatel’s Transmission Division. He held several senior roles Transmission and Application Divisions, including director strategic marketing for mobile solutions and heading the business unit for Convergent Content Applications. Prior to Alcatel, Herbert was Managing Director of Ingenio, a venture capital financed software company. Thus he gained experience in innovative business models and venture capital financing on project and company level. He was Head of Business Unit within ABB before. Herbert Mittermayr graduated at Technical University Graz, Austria in Electrical Engineering and Business. He holds a PhD in Measurement Systems.

Gerard Faria is the Executive Director and co-founder of TeamCast in Rennes, France. He graduated in 1978 from the Technical University of Paris VI (France). In 1988, he co-founded the ITIS company In 2003, Gerard Faria,co-founded TeamCast, a startup Company aiming "to be the preferred partner of the Digital Broadcast actors". Gerard Faria is currently involved in numerous European Collaborative Research projects dealing with Digital Broadcast & Mobile TV. Since 2007, Gerard FARIA co-ordinate a large Eureka/CELTIC project "B21C"which involves 35 partners from 6 European countries, to work in liaison with DVB on“Broadcast for the 21st Century” embracing DVB-H / DVB-SH and DVB-T2. As member of the DVB forum, Gerard Faria participated actively to the DVB Technical works: in 2004 he wrote the DVB-H Physical Layer specifications ETSI EN 300 744 v1.5.1 (2004-11), in 2005 he co-ordinated the DVB-H Validation Task Force work and produced its report ETSI TR 102 401 v1.1.1 (2005-06).
