Joe Hannan will lead a discussion on the current status of AGPS technologies being deployed and what technology improvements can be expected in the next year. What are some of the challenges faced by AGPS when indoors or in urban canyons? What techniques are on the horizon to provide location in environments where AGPS does not work?
Joe Hannan
Joe Hannan has led the company’s location business for the past 6 years. Under his direction, TCS has deployed location solutions in GSM/UMTS and CDMA environments around the world.
Prior to joining TCS, Joe held engineering and operations leadership positions with North
American wireless carriers. He holds his MBA from the University of Denver and a Bachelors of Science in Communication Media from the State University New York at Fredonia.
Roger Marshall will lead the discussion on how LBS is impacted by network access technologies. What are the challenges to LBS given the latest network access technologies, such as with WiFi, WiMAX, Femtocells, 3G and 4G? What are some of the limitations to location determination technology inside these access networks, and what pressing issues does LBS face in terms of hybrid access technology?
Roger Marshall
Roger Marshall is currently working on the development of Next Generation Emergency Service
Standards & Technology. He is involved with several standards forums, including the IETF, NENA, and ATIS, has worked with OMA, 3GPP, and 3GPP2 in the past, with a primary focus on emergency services. Roger has an extensive engineering and operational experience around the design and implementation of E9-1-1 emergency services for Wireless/Cellular mobile and IPbased
(VoIP) networks in North America, including the location-based systems which support them. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from the University of Washington.
Greg Kleven will lead a panel discussion with a variety of handset and SUPL chip manufacturers. What have been the limiting factors when it comes to AGPS handsets?
What handsets are now available? The discussion will center on the upcoming SUPL handsets now being released commercially into the marketplace.
Greg Kleven
Greg Kleven supports TCS’ location and messaging products throughout the EMEA region and has been actively involved in the on-going Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) Secure User Plane for
Location (SUPL)Testfests held in Europe.
Kleven is a 20 year veteran of the telecos industry and has held senior management positions with Metapath (now Marconi PLC), Sequent Computer Systems (now IBM), and NCRCorporation. He holds an undergraduate from Pacific Lutheran University and a Masters from Columbia, NYC.
Roger Marshall leads a discussion of the basic building blocks needed for emergency service deployment in Europe, how the move toward packet-based mobile networks may impact the current support for Emergency 1-1-2 services, and an overview of emergency services standards development topics. This presentation will be of value for EU member states in their planning for next generation emergency services.
