Launching a new technology; Entering new markets & Overcoming regulatory uncertainty

30 - 31 January 2008, Hilton Amsterdam, Amsterdam, Netherlands

Workshop

Pre - Conference Workshop: 29 January 2008

DECT: The Next Generation Developing CAT-iq Technology

  1. Led By: Dion Nielsen, Research Development Manager, Kirk Telecom (Polycom)

Objectives:
This interactive, individually based workshop will focus on the technical challenges facing the launch, development and role out of CAT-iq technology. This workshop is engineering focused and will begin by outlining CAT-iq and focus on the building blocks for enabling new products as well as discussing the certification process. The standardisation of the technology will be at the forefront of the discussion especially looking at the development of the chip sets. One of the major challenges facing the development of CAT-iq technology is the lack of test equipment currently available. This year saw the only test equipment developer, stop the production of the development and support equipment for DECT technologies. This led RTX to work on test equipment for the new standard and the workshop will allow you to explore the new test equipment further. The development of new software and hardware will also be a main focal point of the day.

1. Introducing CAT-iq

  • Defining the new standard?
  • Who are the industry bodies involved?
  • Who should be concerned with CAT-iq

2. New Technology: Profiles

  • Building blocks for enabling CAT-iq Products
  • The Profiles: Overview, Voice & Data

3. Standardisation of a New Product

  • Certification process
  • Working together to develop the new standard

4. Chip-Set Development

  • What can the new chip-sets offer?
  • Pros and Cons of different chip architecture

5. Developing New Test Equipment

  • What is the void left by Rohde and Schwarts?
  • How can test equipment be developed to provide for the new standard?

6. Complexities Around Software and Hardware Development

  • Technical discussion around developing and upgrading both the hardware and software for CAT-iq.
