Michael Newlands is a freelance partner of Informa Telecoms & Media He has been a journalist for 30 years and has lived and worked in Africa, the Middle East, the far East Oceania and the UK. Michael started writing about technology and telecoms in the early 1990s when based in Hong Kong, with early assignments including Cable & Wireless’ rollout of a network in Mongolia and Hutchinson Telecom starting to spread its wings as deregulation kicked in. Initially a business journalist, he worked on daily newspapers in Africa and the Middle East and then as a freelancer with clients including the BBC Africa Service, The Times, The New York Times, Institutional Investor. Michael has written extensively for publications including Informa Telecoms & Media’s subscription newsletters. He also does research work for Informa. His last full time position was as Asia Pacific Bureau Chief for Computer Wire.
